Cathedral
OF SAINT MARKELLA
For over 50 years, the Cathedral of Saint Markella has been a center of spirituality for the Orthodox Christian and Greek community of its area. It is thanks to our parishioners' continued support that our Cathedral’s mission in safeguarding our faith, traditions and culture endures to this day.

Every January, we gather as one family and celebrate the feast of Saint Basil the Great, highlighted by the annual cutting of the traditional Vasilopita and the presentation of the Bishop Petros of Astoria award.

The Bishop Petros of Astoria Award was created in 2014 to simultaneously honor the memory of Bishop Petros and acknowledge a parishioner who has given generously, not only to the church, but to the community in general.
This joyous yearly celebration encompasses the overall mission of our Cathedral in a commemoration of Saint Basil– who while promoting Christianity also tended to his community by helping the poor and unfortunate.
